This isn't funny

This is a serious posting. The CQC report into the treatment of the elderly (dignity and nutrition)in hospitals is published today. I am shocked by the findings. The following is just one of the quotes from the report. There are many more.
“The patient constantly called out for help and rattled the bedrail as staff passed by… We noted that 25 minutes passed before this patient received attention". I urge you to read this report to understand what is going on in some of our hospitals.

Please note that poor care is not universal and some hospitals(I don't know the proportion) provide good care.

So why is this happening? Well, the report pulls out various failings, including Leadership, which is the one I wish to dwell on here. Leadership has to stop being a buzz word thrown around by politicians. We have to recognise the need for it, even where those in senior managerial positions cannot take an objective view about leadership in their organisation. Some questions are: Is leadership training available? Is such training taken up by those who need it most? If training is provided, what is it's nature and how effective is it? We need proper education for leadership and usage of evidence-based tools. And for fear of this beginning to sound like an advert for our courses - well yes I admit that we would be pleased to help. But I'd be even happier to think that our hospitals were no longer treating our elderly so poorly. I have been, and still am, shocked. Read the report for yourself.
